The ER

We actually went to the ER last Sunday for an emergency!! HAHA Isn’t that what you are suppose to do?  Brennen had a really rough day and fell…more than once.  It all started around noon when he was playing around AKA fighting with Braeden over who could carry the tea for Stephy when he fell face first into the door facing.  He had a goose egg of all goose eggs.  It was pretty big!  We ate some turkey dinner and then Aunt Meg decided to be brave and take all 5 kids to the playground.  Brennen was coming back down off the steps when he got to the last step and fell and busted his head again on metal steps.  He busted it open good and scared Meghan half to death.  Meghan called me from a ladies house that lives by the playground and by the time I got over there they had him pretty much cleaned up.  We jumped into Meghan’s van since my car didn’t have car seats and headed to the ER…

  

He was not very upset…I was letting him eat M&M’s trying to keep him awake since he hadn’t had a nap and calm as  I keep the wet rag over his head…

We get to the ER and they clean it with soap and water and put this bandage on it…

Poor thing was soo tired.  He just wanted to lay down on the bed.  So I let him and he slept while we waited for the doctor.  You would think a kid with a gash out of his head would make a doctor hurry.  Nope, we got a complete hour nap before the doctor came in.  PS, he was a great doctor but geeee whizzz HURRY up next time please!

He did sooo well!  For a kid who is getting shots in the forehead and stitches he barely fussed and was asking me for a popsicle.  He was amazing and got a whole box of popsicles after this. 

He had six stitches for five days.  We let Aunt Courtnee take them out Thanksgiving weekend since she use to work for a plastic surgeon.  We figured she knew what she was doing!  Brennen was pretty proud of his battle wound and ate up all the attention!!! 

The next morning after the ER visit I was asking Brennen what happened and all he could talk about was how he left his bike at the playground.  I assured him that his G-unk picked it up and took it home for him!  He was ready to go back and play with Meghan soon!

This is one thing I was excited not to have to do 2 at the same time! =]   Let’s hope we don’t have any more stitches for a LONG time!

Oh my…

Let the terrible 2’s begin!

I’ve always wondered what the terrible 2’s meant.  We made it more than half way through and I think I JUST figured it out!  I thought I had totally missed the terrible 2’s, because we are closer to 3 than 2 so why not terrible 3’s?? 

What terrible 2’s mean?

• spitting at mommy when she tells me something I don’t want to hear
• hitting each other…not kinda tapping them, full on punches
• fighting over every single toy we own, even if there are 2 in the house they want the SAME one
• getting a “mean” voice
• refusing to get dressed
• not listening to mommy
• doing anything to upset mommy like REFUSING to go potty
• Yes mommy has gotten smart and begged with chocolate
• Did I mention sticking out the tongue and spitting?  The PLAHHH noise.  HAHA it is very hard to explain in typing.  The thing we teach them when they are babies to make a noise
• Refusing to eat ANYTHING remotely healthy
• Mommy trying to give you 1 vitamin but you think you deserve 2

Ok, so I’ve had a hard couple of days.  It is REALLY REALLY hard being the only person to discipline the boys around here.  I think they really need their daddy right now, 4 more months.  Speaking of which, why do boys always listen to their daddy better than mommy?  I have disciplined them more than once for all the above (well maybe not the vitamins because it is just funny), but man I feel like the meanest mommy in the world!!  I hate putting them in time out or giving them spankings, but they absolutely can NOT think these things are ok.  Especially the spitting and hitting!  They can be the most precious kids but some days they just wake up with that “attitude”.  Maybe we just need attitude adjustments around here (I HATED when my parents told me that)!

Halloween Festivities

We had an interesting weekend and Halloween!  We had a GREAT Friday afternoon with Addison.  Courtnee and Cory had to work late and Beau didn’t get to leave San Antonio very early so we played…

Then Saturday morning we woke up with Brennen in bed with us and a temp.  I thought no big deal, gave him some Motrin and we played all day.

This was the first mess we had on our hands!  FYI-Do NOT leave 2 2 1/2 year olds and a 3 year old playing on the slide when there is mud!  But all we could do was laugh and clean it up.  The boys thought they had me foiled and that I didn’t think they were playing in there!  They had no idea their hinny did all the talking

Then we let them decorate cupcakes!  FUN TIMES!  It was not near of a mess as we thought it would be and they tasted YUMMY!

THEN we decided to go trick-or-treating.  Brennen acted ok, then we we got about 2 houses down he wanted me to carry him..But he still ran up to the door. 

I was the referee..I feel like one most days so I felt it fit!

AND this house!  It had this HUGE blow up thing on the outside that you had to walk thru..Then they didn’t even answer the door!  STRANGE!

 

AND then we came home and ate TONS of candy..THEN Brennen decided to get a spiking fever and NOTHING would stop it.  Thank God Courtnee is in Nurse Practioner school right now or I would have FREAKED OUT!   Ok, well I still did a little but it helped to say what do you think I should do??

Anyways, he fever got up to 104, we immediately put him in a cold bath..He kept telling me Mommy cooold!  He felt horrible! We gave him Mortirn, then Tylenol, then Mortrin again!  It finally came down to around the 100 range and leveled off!  So I thought ok, we will just drive home tomorrow (Sunday) and if it gets too bad I will take them to the ER.  Brennen woke up a couple hours that night but overall slept pretty well!  Then we wake up Sunday morning and he seemed fine!  CRAZY!  Around noon Beau had to leave and then I was going to leave around 2.  Well in between the time Beau left and I was getting ready Braeden’s temp started doing the SAME thing.  So I freaked out and didn’t want to drive home.  I decided to put them down for a nap and see how it went.  When they woke up they both still had fevers so this is what we saw next.

 

I knew that if they had the Flu they could only get on Tamiflu in the first 48 hours of symptoms.  We were getting awfully close with Brennen so I decided to play it safe! 

Man I’m soo glad I did.  We went in, both boys had ear infections and were officially diagnosed with the flu strain A!  They do not have ACTUAL h1n1 flu tests so it is not positive, but the doctor was about 99% positive that it was swine.  They act fine.  It’s just the crazy temp.

We decided to watch Uncle Marshal’s last football game for the season at McMurry Monday night, then head home Tuesday morning.  Both boys hadn’t run a fever in over 48 hours so they would be good for day-care.  Then Tuesday night, Braeden’s fever went up to 101 again.  It went right back down with Motrin, but no day-care.  I do NOT want to get those kids sick!  So it’s just mommy and kiddo time until Monday.  I’m going to feel like a stay-at-home mom again!  YAY!

 

I love this!  The case of h1n1 that we got was not a horrible case and we caught it within the first 48 hours!  But man when I say the boys got it people FReAK out!  We are on Tamiflu AND an antibiotic.  Most cases of h1n1 are not serious but can lead to pnemonia or stuff like that so since we are on antibiotics too it should be cleared up in NO TIME!
